Plane has crashed at Rowan County Airport

Poole’s injuries were minor, Thomason said. The pilot told authorities he was making a normal landing from north to south when the plane bounced and veered into the grass before overturning, Thomason said. Poole was flying a Vans RV9, a small, one-seat experimental plane, Thomason said.The pilot refused treatment at the scene.

UPDATED 12:15 p.m. — Pilot Robert Poole of Granite Quarry bounced his plane on landing and overturned it today at the Rowan County Airport, according to Rowan County Emergency Services Director Frank Thomason.

Poole’s injuries were minor, Thomason said.


The crash resulted in a small fuel leak, and the runway remains closed.

“It could have been much worse,” Thomason said.

The pilot told authorities he was making a normal landing from north to south when the plane bounced and veered into the grass before overturning, Thomason said.

Poole was flying a Van’s RV9, a small, one-seat experimental plane, Thomason said.

The pilot refused treatment at the scene.

The plane remains upside down in the grass. The N.C. Highway Patrol will be the primary investigators, with supplemental reports from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and Salisbury Police Department.

SALISBURY — An airplane has crashed at the Rowan County Airport, according to traffic on the emergency scanner.

The pilot is reportedly out of the plane and mobile but injured. The plane is along the runway. The location of the crash was reported as 3670 Airport Loop.
