Evelyn Howard and John Ridenhour were married April 3, 1943, in South Carolina. John was drafted in August and joined the Marine Corps. He was sent to California, where they stayed over a year. Evelyn graduated from Salisbury Beauty School while John was overseas.

After the service, John started Rowan Septic Tank and Ditching Co. Now retired, their son-in-law George Kirkpatrick and his three sons, Kevin, Scott and Troy, run the company.

Their children, Diane and Willie Kirkpatrick and Ronald and Judy Ridenhour, hosted a celebration dinner April 3 at Blue Bay, surprising the couple with the attendance of their grandchildren (Kevin, Scott and Troy Kirkpatrick, Matt and Mark Ridenhour and David Rives) and their 12 great-grandchildren. Yellow roses were placed on the RidenhoursÕ table in memory of their daughter, Joyce Kirkpatrick, and great-grandson Cody Rives.
