A Statesville Boulevard man was charged with taking a table from a neighbor’s front porch, less than a mile from his own home. Ozzie Batchelor, 68, of the 600 block of Statesville Boulevard, was charged with misdemeanor larceny. Salisbury Police say another neighbor saw Batchelor walk up to the home, located in the 1400 block of Statesville Boulevard, go to the back of the property. He then went to the front porch, took a small metal glass-topped table and left. Police stopped a man fitting Batchelor’s description who was carrying a table walking toward Innes Street.

The incident occurred Monday around 11 a.m. He was given a $400 secured bond and has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center. Batchelor, also known as Ozzie Bachelor, was convicted of a 1976 Oregon murder, has also been convicted of theft, kidnapping, rape, burglary and drug possession.
