Salisbury Police seized a little more than a ounce of marijuana from a Park Avenue home after serving a search warrant there Tuesday morning. Members of the Police Narcotics Unit and the Police Interdiction Team charged Tyrone Antonio Gibson, 35, of the 800 block of Park Avenue with possession with the intent to sell and deliver a schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. While there, police say they had to shoot a dog that attacked an officer.

Investigators went to the home around 8:23 a.m. and seized 30.6 grams of marijuana, which was individually packaged in 10 bags. Investigators also confiscated scales and numerous bags. When officers went to the home, a shepherd-mix adult dog came from under the front steps attacked an officer. Another officer had to shoot the dog to stop the attack, a press release said. The officer was not hurt and only had torn pants. The dog died of his injuries. Gibson was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $2,500 bond. He has since been released from the county jail.

In 1998, Gibson was convicted of drug possession as well as in 2000, 2009 and most recently was convicted in October 2012 of drug possession.
