SALISBURY — A Mocksville man who authorities say intentionally gave them the wrong name after a traffic stop spent the night in the hospital getting an enema and an X-ray. Law enforcement recovered 50 pills from the man’s body, some of which fell from his pants and socks at the traffic stop.
Salisbury Police charged Dennis Monroe Alexander, 27, of Fonso Way, with misdemeanor resist, delay, obstruct a public officer; simple possession of a schedule II, III and IV controlled substances, three counts failure to appear on previous incidents and driving while license revoked.
The incident occurred Friday at 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of South Long and East Bank streets. The officer stopped the vehicle and checked the tag information, which indicated the driver had a revoked license. When the officer asked the driver his name, he told the officer his name was Brad Peck. The driver told police the vehicle belonged to his cousin, Dennis Alexander, who was later identified as the driver and the owner of the car.
The officer noted Alexander kept sticking his hands into his pants near his buttocks area. On more than one occasion the officer asked Alexander to remove his hands from his pants, a report said. The officer asked if the driver had any illegal substances on him. Another police officer, who recognized Alexander, told the officer his true identity. Alexander began stalling when the officer asked him to step out of the vehicle. When he stepped out of the car and was searched, several pills fell from his pants leg. An officer checked Alexander’s socks and found more pills. When officers attempted to check his shoes, Alexander complained of chest pains and told officers he’d had back surgery. He eventually just laid on the ground, the report said.
Officers called an ambulance, which took Alexander to Rowan Regional Medical Center. While in the emergency department, staff gave Alexander an enema and an X-ray, which yielded more pills. Alexander was in possession of several oxycodone, alprazolam (a form of Xanax), hydrocodone bitartrate (a form of Vicodin) and oxymorphone, a pain medication, and $617 in cash.
Alexander remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $32,500 secured bond. He was previously convicted on driving while license revoked, drug possession and driving while impaired.
