Rowan tops all counties in state blind putt-putt tournament

Rowan County won first place with a team average of 112 in the 25th annual statewide miniature golf tournament for the blind and visually impaired was held at Dan Nicholas Park on Saturday. Catawba County finished second at 114.

Participants represented Avery, Cabarrus, Caldwell, Catawba, Davidson, Gaston, Guilford, Hoke, Iredell, Mitchell, Rowan, Wake and Yancey counties.


Rowan County Parks and the Therapeutic Recreation Division, Dan Nicholas Park and Salisbury Parks and Recreation sponsored the event. Seventy-two putters from around the state showed off their skills in the 36-hole tournament.

Dan Nicholas Park provided lunch and the Rockwell Lions Club prepared food. Cheerwine Bottling Co., College Bar-B-Q and Flowers Bakeries Inc., provided donations for the meal. Doughnuts were provided by Krispy Kreme. Volunteers from Catawba and Livingstone colleges and helpers from the various counties assisted.
