More than 260 athletes to gather for Special Olympics event at Carson
CHINA GROVE — More than 260 athletes will gather at Carson High School on Tuesday for the Special Olympics Spring Games Track and Field event, which will include local participants. Spectators are needed for this year’s event, which will begin at 10 a.m.
Admission is free for the event; sales of concessions and souvenirs support Special Olympics Rowan County.
Athletes will compete in the 200-meter run, 100-meter run, 50-meter run/walk, shot put, running long jump, softball throw, standing long jump and wheelchair events. New this year will be a Young Athletes Program, hosting elementary students ages 5-7. Competition will take place at the school’s football stadium.
Special Olympics North Carolina is an accredited subprogram of Special Olympics North Carolina, Inc., offering year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. These athletes inspire greatness through their success and provide motivation to the many coaches, sports officials, local program committee members and other supporters involved in Special Olympics.
