Arthritis Foundation Tai Chi among events at senior center

Reduce stress, improve flexibility and balance with Arthritis Foundation Tai Chi, a six-week session offered at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center on Fridays from noon to 12:50 p.m. beginning April 19.
This tai chi form allows you to stand at a higher position and make smaller movements, making the class suitable for older adults, beginners and those with health conditions like arthritis.
There is a $15 fee and you need to be a member of the center and have a fitness consultation with a trainer. Participants should register in advance as spaces are limited.
Bus Trip to Ben Long Frescoes, Cheese Factory, lunch at Shatley Springs Inn
Wednesday, April 17. Bus leaves Senior Center at 8 a.m. enroute to West Jefferson with first stop at a church in Glendale Springs where a guide will explain Ben Long’s fresco of “The Last Supper.”  Then to the mountains for a lunch stop at the famous Shatley Springs Inn. Dutch-treat, cash or check only, no credit cards.
The trip to West Jefferson will include a visit to a church with three frescoes.  There is no fee for viewing the frescoes, but donations are accepted in the churches.
After this we will stop at North Carolina’s only cheese factory. The bus will arrive back at the Senior Center by 7 p.m. Cost is $30 per person and includes motorcoach transportation, tours, tax and tips.
Interested older adults need to pre-pay at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center to reserve a seat on the bus. Reservations are first-come, first-served, and you can pick your seat assignment at the time of purchase. You must be a member of the Center to purchase a ticket.
Cultural Crossroads: Russia

Thursday, April 25 at 6:30 p.m. Explore the culture, food and history of Russia. Alla and Ted Fuller will present an evening of Russian culture through story, slide presentation and Russian folk songs. Enjoy an authentic Russian meal prepared by the chefs at Magnolia Gardens, sip hot tea and listen to the presentation. Pre-register by Friday, April 19.
Cost is $5 payable in advance or at the door.
