SALISBURY — Two workers injured when they became trapped in a conveyor assembly used to load trucks at Williams Companies Inc., 1310 Richard St., this afternoon.

Both were able to be freed before first responders arrived. They were treated and taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The initial emergency call came in at 2:32 p.m. as a possible amputation, said Emergency Management Services Director Frank Thomason, but the injuries were not as severe as first feared.

Thomason said he didn’t know how the two were freed from the machine.

The call came about 15 minutes after rescuers responded to Neel Road where a man was trapped underneath a lawn mower. Rowan Rescue Squad left the Neel Road accident to respond to the Richard Street call. Fire officials were able to free the man trapped underneath the mower.
