SALISBURY — A nonworking headlight led Salisbury Police to charge two men with drug possession following an early Sunday morning vehicle stop.
Eric Todd Salter Jr., 23, of Simpson Drive, Wilberforce, Ohio, was charged with one count misdemeanor simple possession of a controlled substance and one count felony sell or deliver a controlled substance. He remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond. Joshua David Hodge, 24, a native of Connecticut, was charged with one count felony sell or deliver a controlled substance. He has since been released under a $2,500 secured bond.
The officer stopped the vehicle at the corner of South Caldwell and South Ellis streets just before 2 a.m. The officer approached the passenger’s side of the vehicle, but noticed the driver, later identified as Eric Salter, shoving his hands down his pants. The officer spoke with Salter who said, “It’s just some tree,” a report said.
Salter was asked to step out of the vehicle and be searched. Officials found four individual bags of marijuana inside a Crown Royal drawstring bag. The officer seized $65, also in Salter’s possession.
The passenger, later identified as Joshua Hodge, had $3,300 with a band wrapped around it and separated into three stacks, the report said. The cash was also seized.
