Area Sports Briefs: West, South baseball win

West Rowan beat West Iredell 6-2 to stay in the NPC race on Tuesday.
The Falcons (10-2, 4-2) rode strong pitching by Michael Ball, He struck out four, walked none and allowed one earned run while tossing a complete game.
Hunter Teeter had two hits for the Falcons. Justin Evans, Taylor Garczynski and Nick Collins had a hit apiece.
• South Rowan’s baseball team rolled to a 12-2 win in five innings at Statesville on Tuesday.
Nathan Lambert was the winning pitcher. He threw three innings, and Billy Winecoff pitched the last two.
Tyler Fuller led the Raiders at the plate. He was 3-for-3 and stole four bases. Eric Tyler went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Jake Fulton also had two hits.
South (7-3, 4-2) got hits from eight players. The Raiders will play at West Iredell tonight.
• North Rowan rolled 9-0 against South Davidson in a YVC game on Tuesday.
Thomas Tucker was the winning pitcher. Tucker, Cory Fries and Clint Veal combined for 11 strikeouts and a three-hitter.
North (5-5, 3-4) had 12 hits, with Tucker going 3-for-3 and Rhett Hellard, Chance Mazza and Jake Pritchard getting two hits each.
Pritchard had three RBIs. Tucker and Mazza had two each.
• Davie County edged West Forsyth 1-0 in nine innings at Rich Park on Tuesday.
Jeremy Walker pitched seven innings and Jarod Wolfe pitched the final two for the War Eagles, who improved to 2-1 in the CPC.
Elijah Jones scored the winning run in the ninth when Luke Martin hit a groundball with the bases loaded.
West Rowan beat West Iredell 11-8 for a big NPC win on Tuesday.
Hunter Gibbons and Kristin South had three hits each for the Falcons. Maddy Blume and Cat Whitley drove in two runs each.
South and Leah McCoy split pitching duties for the Falcons (3-3 NPC). Kristin South and Brianna Turner had two RBIs apiece.
• North Rowan won 8-1 on Tuesday against YVC opponent South Davidson.
Taylor Sells struck out six and was the winning pitcher. Sells and Bri Mock had two hits each.
• Sammie Kennerly went 3-for-3 and drove in six runs in South Rowan’s 15-0 NPC win against Statesville on Tuesday.
Kennerly (6-0) had a double and a triple and also pitched a two-hitter.
Caitlin Waters had an inside-the-park homer and drove in three runs for the Raiders (8-4, 2-4).
Abby Fields and Katherine Starnes had triples, and Kacie Stamey had two hits.
• Carson’s softball team lost 6-0 to North Iredell in NPC action on Tuesday.
Lacee Hunsucker struck out 12 for the Cougars. Morgan Peninger had a double and Mariah Morgan had a single for the Cougars.
• The Carson/East Rowan game will be played Thursday at 4:15 p.m.
Former football players from North Rowan and Salisbury won’t be outdone by Davie and West Rowan as far as an alumni football game. No sooner than it was announced those two teams would play, the interest grew in Salisbury and Spencer.
Scotty Robinson, a former Salisbury Hornet and starting defensive lineman for East Carolina, is organizing an alumni game featuring North Rowan and Salisbury, scheduled for July 13. Any former players from either school should contact Robinson at 980-216-6683.

Prep girls soccer
Salisbury defeated Lexington 5-0 Tuesday behind a hat trick from Kristel Rodriguez. Adna Music and Maddie Labovitz also scored for the Hornets who improved to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the Central Carolina Conference.
Maritsa Mourouzidis, Kathryn Rusher, Kate Grant had assists. Salisbury goalie Kaytee Leonguerrero held Lexington to three shots in the shutout. Salisbury faces Thomasville April 8 in its next game.

Leana Blais of Salisbury is making her name in gymnastics.
Blais, who competes for the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh, was named second-team All-American at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships held March 22-23 in Whitewater. Blais was tied a season best with a figure of 9.525 in the preliminaries on the uneven bars.
Catawba fell to Belmont Abbey 4-3 in 10 innings Tuesday on the road. The Crusaders got a leadoff single from Kyle Buchanan in the bottom of the 10th and Matt Mazzolla brought home pinch runner Michael Accetullo to claim the win.
The Indians (25-9) got four hits from Ethan Satterfield and three hits from Blake Houston. Houston and Satterfield drove in a pair of runs in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. BA tied the game in the seventh after loading the bases with one out against Catawba starter Cameron Cockman.
Catawba split a doubleheader at Lenoir-Rhyne Tuesday in Hickory. The Indians won the second game 4-1 after dropping the opener 2-0.
Emily D. Huneycutt had an RBI double as did Kelsey Burgess to give Catawba a 2-0 lead in the nightcap.
Catawba is now 23-13 overall and 4-4 in the SAC.
Salisbury and West Davidson tied for first Tuesday in a Central Carolina Conference match at Winding Creek Golf Course. Both teams shot 162 in the first conference match of the season.
Eric Edwards led the Hornets with a 39 and Alex Austin and Gabe Steinman added 41s. Abraham Post (43) and Christopher Queen (45) also logged solid scores.
West’s Andrew Kahn was the medalist with a 37 and teammate Nathan Curry shot 39. East Davidson’s Wes Cline shot 38 to help his team to a 164 score.
Salisbury defeated East Davidson 9-0 Tuesday. Brock Overcash, Clint Comadoll, Chris Derrick, David Derrick, Spencer Storey and Hunter Carlton provided singles wins. Overcash/Comadoll, Chris Derrick/David Derrick, and Storey/Carlton teamed up for doubles wins.
Middle school soccer
Southeast’s boys topped West Rowan 8-2. Raunel Vasquez scored four goals and Braxton Rogers scored twice. Jesus Sanchez and Daniel Carrillo scored one goal each. Vasquez, Rogers, Carrillo and Michael Rosas had assists. German Delgado and Daniel Valverde starred defensively.
• The Southeast girls defeated West Rowan 3-0 Tuesday. Farrah Jordan scored two goals and Sarah Musselwhite scored once. Sandy Alvarez, Alexa Escobar, Katherine Nunez, Elizabeth Nava and Camryn Nooner played sound defense and Ally Wilhelm had a shutout in goal.
Middle school baseball
North Rowan defeated Knox 12-2 Tuesday with two home runs and a double from Trent Barry. Javin Goodine and Cameron Tucker got two hits apiece. Corbin Smith pitched a complete-game two-hitter with eight strikeouts. NR faces China Grove at home today.
Middle school tennis
Southeast’s boys tennis team defeated West Middle 9-0. Singles winners were Cameron Bisbe, Luis Cipres, Dante Syhavong, Wyatt Bryant, and Cameron Doss. Doubles wins came from the teams of Cipres-Campola and Knabbe-Winecoff. West had two forfeited matches.
• The Erwin Boys tennis team defeated Southeast to earn their third victory of the season. Winners in singles were Zakk Perdue, Robert Gray, Tyson Love, Clinton Nash, and Sawyer Russell.
Winners in doubles were Gray, Perdue, Carleton Jackson, and Nash.
Josh Endicott pitched six solid innings and had two hits as the Greater Cabarrus Homeschool jayvee baseball team defeated Carmel Christian 8-3 on Tuesday.
Endicott came in during the second inning with the Stallions trailing. The 6-foot-6 fireballer allowed only two hits and no runs.
Caleb Threadgill, Tyler Hartsell and Dalton Lankford each had three hits. Threadgill produced two doubles. The Stallions (5-1) take on Greensboro Homeschool Thursday at Southeast Middle School at 5 p.m.
The Rowan Hurricanes AAU basketball team won a tournament over the weekend.
The Hurricanes beat the Burke Jammers in their first game 56-7 and then defeated the Fuqua Vipers 45-34. In the championship game, the Hurricanes beat the Carolina Express 49-10.
