Two men charged with sex offenses against the same teen girl
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged two men Monday with sex offenses against the same young girl after her father notified authorities.
Officials charged Chad Wayne Poss, 28, with felony indecent liberties with a child, and Rodney Albert Shearer Jr., 21, with felony indecent liberties with a child and two counts of statutory rape.
The incidents occurred separately at a January party, within the same 24-hour period, with the same 14-year-old girl, officials said.
Reports said the girl portrayed herself to be 18 years old. The teen’s father found some messages on her cell phone and contacted law enforcement. Law enforcement considers the men to be acquaintances of the teen, but also said she knew Poss through a mutual acquaintance.
Rowan Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford said this is a good example of why parents should be involved in what their children are doing on social media.
Shearer remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $25,000 bond. Poss has since been released under a $1,000 secured bond. Poss has been convicted of carrying a concealed weapon, communicating threats, a traffic infraction, larceny and breaking and entering. Shearer has been convicted of defrauding an innkeeper, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering and drug possession.
