A woman airlifted to a Winston-Salem hospital following a Monday afternoon crash at the intersection of U.S. 601 and White Farm Road remains hospitalized.

Victoria Mitchell, 18, of Salisbury, was heading north in her 1995 Saturn turning left onto U.S. 601 when she struck a 2000 Kia traveling south on U.S. 601. The two vehicles hit in the middle of the intersection on the driver’s side of Saturn, pinning Mitchell inside. Mitchell was taken by ambulance to Rowan Regional Medical and then airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

It took Franklin and Salisbury Fire departments, along with the Rowan County Rescue Squad, about 15 minutes to free Mitchell from her car. She was the only person in the vehicle.

Gary Ledding, 34, his wife, Sandy, 33, and their two children, Kaitlin, 6, and Brock, 8, were in the Kia. The Leddings are also from Salisbury. The family was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center where they were treated and released for bruises and cuts. N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper W.P. Efird investigated the collision.

Everyone involved in the crash was wearing seat belts, the trooper said. Charges for failing to yield the right of way, against Mitchell are pending.
