SALISBURY — A Linwood man strangled a woman early Sunday morning in a Salisbury bar until she passed out, police said.

Brian Keith Trivett Jr., 25, came up behind a woman he knows at Benchwarmers on East Fisher Street and started choking her, according to authorities. The woman lost consciousness.

When Trivett let her go, she fell to the floor and hit her head, police said. The woman, also from Linwood, was transported to Rowan Regional Medical Center, where she was treated and released.

Trivett is charged with assault by strangulation, a felony. He is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center without bond because the crime involved domestic violence, authorities said.

He is scheduled to appear before a judge Monday.
