Cool and threatening skies only brought a light drizzle as runners covered 3.1 miles on the rural roads in the Lazy 5 Vets Millbridge Elementary School 5K Saturday morning.

Robert Miller blistered the course in 17 minutes and 24 seconds to take top overall honors.

“I was much stronger than last week at Knox,” Miller said. “It felt good out there and my goal was to not let anyone get away. This was a good race.”

Rebekah Julian led the females with a time of 21 minutes and 55 seconds.

“I wasn’t as fast as last year. I’ve just started back doing speed work so it was really good to get the win,” said Julian after her second straight win.

In one of the largest and most competitive fun runs in the area, Ethan Bancroft blitzed the half mile course in 3 minutes and 13 seconds as 55 participated.

Race director Claire Watts was pleased with the turnout. “Nearly all of the staff at the school was here to help,” she said. “Atwell Fire Department did their usual spectacular job taking care of the runners on the course. We certainly hope all the participants had a great time.”

Other sponsors were Gerry Wood Auto Group, Spay/Neuter Clinic and Adoption Center, Patterson Farm Inc. Market and Tours, LL Goodnight and Sons, Incorporated, Concord Trophy Center, Concord Printing Co., Sudden Impact Auto Body & Paint Shop and Mault Brothers Service Station.
