The Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium is making it easier for emergency responders in and around Salisbury to be prepared by delivering a free U.S. Department of Homeland Security-certified course on mass fatality planning and response for rural communities.

The eight-hour course will be offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 9 at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, 1333 Jake Alexander Blvd. South, in Salisbury in the 400 Building, room 4133.

This course gives participants the basics of mass fatality response while providing the opportunities to exchange rural perceptions and brainstorm solutions to simulated emergencies.

Participants will learn both in a classroom-lecture setting and through group activities.

Regardless of the agencies or organizations that respond, whether they are governmental agencies or private or non-governmental organizations, the responsibility to coordinate and manage outside resources rests with local authorities.

The course will assist participants in defining a mass fatality incident, listing the types of mass fatalities incidents and possible scenarios.

Registration is required by Friday.
