Police: West Bank Street murder not random, motive still unclear

SALISBURY — Investigators say a motive is unclear at this point in the murder of a 68-year-old West Bank Street man, but believe the crime is not random.

Salisbury Police were sent to a home at 1405 W. Bank St. at 7:34 p.m. Tuesday where they found the body of William Allen Henderson inside a room at the rear of the home.

Police Chief Rory Collins said a caretaker arrived at the home and found Henderson. The victim has a medical condition, but Collins did not say what type of condition. The caretaker called 911, Collins said. It appears Henderson lived alone.

Henderson was stabbed, but Collins did not say where the victim was stabbed or how many times. Investigators have said Henderson was stabbed multiple times. Collins said an autopsy will be performed; his department is awaiting the results.

There was no sign of forced entry into the home, Collins said. He could not say this early in the investigation if or what items were taken from the home.

“Any motive is unclear at this point, but based upon early indications we have reason to believe this is not random,” he said.

Collins said the investigation is continuing and more details will be released at a later date. The last violent crime the police investigated in Salisbury, Collins said, was more than a year ago.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Salisbury Police at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245. These calls may be made anonymously.
