Police: Suspect in New York shooting rampage penniless

HERKIMER, N.Y. (AP) — Police say the man who fatally shot four people in two upstate New York villages had no money, no job and was maxed out on his credit cards.

But police say they still don’t know why 64-year-old Kurt Myers opened fire Wednesday in a barber shop in Mohawk and a car care business in neighboring Herkimer.

State police senior Investigator Timothy Blaise says Monday that Myers had heavy credit card debt and had not been employed since 2006.

Myers was killed by police Thursday morning inside an abandoned bar in Herkimer.

Two men wounded at the barber shop, including the owner, remain hospitalized Monday.

Funerals for two of the victims were scheduled for Monday.

Police are asking anyone with information about Myers to call 315-866-7275.
