First United Church of Christ will hold a Service of Installation and Celebration of Mutual Ministry Partnership for their new pastor, the Rev. Carol Hallman at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The Rev. Dr. John Deckenback, conference minister from the Central Atlantic Conference of the UCC, will preach. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.


Pastor Hallman is a native of Ohio and received her master’s from Yale Divinity School.

Prior to coming to Salisbury, she served as pastor of FUCC in Anthony, Kansas, and Christ’s Reformed UCC near Hagerstown, Md. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Families First of Rowan County.

Mt. Calvary Holy Church

The Faith Healing and Life Ministries Women’s Day program set for Sunday has been cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date.

South Iredell Ame Zion



TROUTMAN — South Iredell’s 122nd church anniversary will be celebrated Sunday, with pastor the Rev. Bobbie Samuels bringing the morning message at 11 a.m.

Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m. and at 3 p.m. the Rev. Thomas Lee, pastor of White Rock AME Zion Church of Granite Quarry will bring the afternoon message.

Jerusalem Baptist



SPENCER — Jerusalem Baptist Church will celebrate Missionary Day on Sunday, during the regular 11 a.m. service with guest speaker Dr. Yvonne Tracey.

Tracey is a native of Port Chester, NY, and now resides in Salisbury. She is a member of Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church, where she is director of Christian education, director of missionary education and first VP of the local lay council.

Music will be rendered by the youth choir under the direction of minister of music Keith Holland. JBCs Pearls of Praise Dancers will also perform.

The highlight of the program will be a special presentation by missionary president Cynthia Stoner. A church member will be recognized, one who has exhibited the true spirit of being a missionary. All women in attendance are asked to wear white.

Calvary Baptist revival



Beginning Sunday and continuing through Wednesday, Calvary Baptist Church will be in revival services.

Dr. Brad Whitt will speak at the 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. services.

Services begin at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

Special emphases include Children’s Night on Sunday, Sunday School Night on Monday, Friend Night on Tuesday and Youth Night on Wednesday.

Activities are planned for children and youth prior to the evening services.

Whitt, pastor of Abilene Baptist Church, Augusta, Ga., is a graduate of Union University, Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He recently was the president of the South Carolina Baptist Convention Pastor’s Conference.

Mt. Tabor fundraiser

EAST SPENCER — The Deaconess Board of Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion Church will have a program at 3 p.m.

The board will honor one of their members for their dedicated service.

The Rev. David Hoover, pastor of Caldwell Chapel AME. Zion Church, will bring the message for the program.

All deaconesses who plan to attend are asked to wear white and sit in a reserved area.

Music & Meditation concludes at St. John’s

The third and final service of Music & Meditation will be presented from 12:15-12:45 p.m. Monday in the chapel of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Performing on Monday are Rosemary Kinard on flute and Rob Durocher on piano.

Durocher is minister of music at St. John’s, and Kinard is associate parish musician.

These free services features music, prayer and meditation.

AME Zion crusade





The Salisbury District African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church will have its annual evangelistic crusade at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, located on Monroe and Partee Streets. The Rev. Carolyn Bratton, host pastor.

The theme for the three-night revival is “Fortifying Our Faith While Focusing on our Future through Worship.”

The evangelist for Monday and Tuesday nights will be the Rev. Dr. Daran H. Mitchell, pastor of Trinity AME Zion Church, Greensboro, West Central Conference.

The evangelist for the Wednesday night service will be the Rev. Henrico White, pastor of St. Stephen’s AME Zion Church of High Point.

Music will be provided nightly by various church choirs of the Salisbury District and guest choirs from Trinity AME Zion Church, Greensboro, and St. Stephen’s AME Zion Church of High Point. Rev. Herbert R. Warren Jr., is Presiding Elder of the District, Rev. Dr. Grant Harrison serves as chairman of the Evangelistic Crusade Committee.

Fairview Heights Baptist



The Fairview Heights Baptist Church will hold their annual Spring revival at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

United in Prayer Rally at Catawba College

The Catawba College Gospel Choir will host a United in Prayer Rally from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Leonard Lounge of the Cannon Student Center.

During the rally, free prayer posters will be distributed that students and others may write a prayer on, photograph their prayer and then share it via social media.

The United in Prayer Rally is organized by Hope Raisers at www.hoperaisers.org and the rally at Catawba is just one of the stops on a cross-country trip organized by the group.

The rally will include fun opportunities for individuals to win United in Prayer shirts that will also be available to those making donations. Members of the community are invited to participate.

Salisbury First Presbyterian



First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury hosts a Holy Week concert, “From Passion to Resurrection,” at 4 p.m. Palm Sunday, March 24, in the sanctuary.

Performers will include the sanctuary choir of First Presbyterian Church; soprano soloist, Christina Pier; violinist, Dr. Dan Skidmore and other guest instrumentalists; organist, Monty Bennett; and conductor, Rick L. Smith.

The choir will present Gabriel Faure’s Requiem by John Rutter; Easter music by Beethoven, Handel, Mozart; and a Moravian song by Johann Bechler. Begin your Holy Week journey from the Passion Story to the Resurrection with this free concert.
