Local Bridge: Tournament Time!

  • Posted: Sunday, March 17, 2013 10:54 a.m.

Every year the Dogwood Sectional Tournament is held here in Salisbury at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center.

It is our chance to host bridge players from all over the state and our home players’ chance to pick up more points, including silver ones.

These are needed to achieve Life-Master status.

The games begin Friday, March 22 with sessions at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The tournament continues Saturday March 23 at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

There are refreshments at all sessions, with many restaurant coupons being given out.

The event wraps up Sunday, March 24 with the Billy Burke Swiss Teams.

They start at 10 a.m. with a break for a full lunch and then the final team sessions after the meal.

All sessions cost $9 with a $96 entry for a for a four-man team. This includes the lunch.

Every day we have a 299er’s section giving less experienced players a chance to compete against players at their own level. We hope all of you will come out and enjoy.

We had more than six tables last Friday with many winners. N/S: First, Marie Pugh /Ruth Bowles; second, Gloria Bryant /Wayne Pegram; third, Lib Marion/Rachel Herman. E/W: First, Pat Featherston/Pat Macon; second, Loyd and Jean Hill; third, Harold and Carol Winecoff.

Tuesday’s Women’s Club winners were first, the Winecoffs and tied for second and third, Betsy Bare/Gloria Bryant and Pat Macon /Judy Gealy.

This was board No. 15 at last Friday’s game. The Marion/Herman pair took best N/S by setting 6HE*-3; the McLaughlins took best E/W by making 6CW+1. N/S vul S dealer.
