Police: Crack cocaine found in car
SALISBURY — A Salisbury woman has been charged with felony cocaine possession after police officers stopped her vehicle for suspicious activity.
On March 7, around 3:15 p.m., the Salisbury Police Department says officers saw a suspicious vehicle parked left of center on Grim Street near Horah Street. According to the report, the vehicle appeared to drop someone off before driving away.
Suspecting a drug deal, officers pulled over the vehicle at a nearby parking lot in the 1400 block of West Innes Street.
Joyce Anne Murphy, 39, of South Ellis Street, was driving and gave consent to search her vehicle. Police say they found one crack cocaine rock — about.1 grams — on the floor between the driver’s seat and the door.
When the evidence was confirmed to be cocaine, Murphy was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. After turning herself in Thursday, she was given a $1,000 bond and was taken to the Rowan County Detention Center.
Murphy was also charged in February 2012 with felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a concealed weapon.
