Pregnancy Support Center still has seats available for annual banquet
Have you ever passed by the Pregnancy Support Center on South Main Street and wondered what goes on there?
Until you really need something, sometimes you aren’t aware of its existence. The Pregnancy Support Center is really an unsung hero to many in Salisbury, but there are so many people who have no idea what it does.
Many believe it assists individuals who face the challenges of unplanned pregnancy. They are correct. Others believe that the center seeks to serve Jesus Christ and lift up his values. They are also correct. Still others might believe that the center ministers to the deeper needs of the clients resulting from choices in their past. They too are correct.
But it goes so far beyond that.
The Pregnancy Support Center provides a variety of services to meet needs in the community. All services are free and confidential. These range from pregnancy tests, education on pregnancy, abstinence presentations to schools and church youth groups, various other types of support, and referrals to medical care agencies that can assist with costs associated with pregnancy.
Volunteers to be peer counselors, client services assistants, baby and maternity boutique helpers, and facility maintenance volunteers during office hours are always needed.
The Pregnancy Support Center has two main fundraisers during the year. In the fall, there is the annual Walk for Life.
In the spring, this year on March 21, the annual fundraising banquet will be held at the Holiday Inn on Jake Alexander Boulevard at 6:30 p.m. The banquet’s theme this year is Life in Perspective. Featured speaker is Henry Jernigan. Some seats are still available, but reservations are required by calling 704-633-7695.
The Pregnancy Support Center is a positive Christian environment where volunteer peer counselors reach out to women who are distressed because of an unexpected pregnancy. These volunteers offer emotional, factual and practical assistance to women facing pressure of choosing which path to take with a pregnancy. Volunteers work with clients well past the duration of a pregnancy, as some clients continue services until their child is 2 years old. Volunteers go above and beyond the call of duty, and clients often respond with faithfulness to the goals and mission of the center. Often times former clients stay connected to the ministry many years later.
So now, if you have or have not wondered about the Pregnancy Support Center, you know a little more about what it offers. “How can I help,” you ask? There are several ways that the center receives help. First and foremost, you may help through prayer. Your prayers for the work of the center and the clients that God sends to the center will ensure the center’s effectiveness and success.
There are also various committees that operate after office hours at flexible times. The other very important way to help is by giving financial support and donations. In order for the center to provide free services, the financial support of the community is critical. If you would like to partner with the center financially or donate specific material items, please contact the office for information or visit their supporter website, www.RowanFriendsForLife.org.
