Police charged a Spencer man with resisting arrest after an officer responding to gunshots in an area saw him and another person fail to stop their mo-ped at a stop sign.

Salisbury Police Officer J.L. Moreau heard five gunshots in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Franklin and Cemetery streets. She spotted a male, later identified as LaMichael Donnell Feamster, on a mo-ped that did not stop at a sign. The officer was checking to see if the shots came from the man.

The officer noted the suspect kept looking back at her, but did not stop. She told him to put his hands up, but he just revved the engine, a report said. Moreau attempted to stun him with a Taser, but he sped off when only one prong fired, said Capt. Shelia Lingle.

Feamster eventually ditched the mo-ped and took off on foot. But he was spotted a short time later and arrested in the 1000 block of Second Street in Spencer. Officers noted Feamster had removed his jacket, but he was able to be identified as the person Moreau was pursuing. He gave police another name, but an officer recognized him, a report said.

Feamster was charged with several misdemeanors including resist, delay, obstruct a police officer, and on outstanding warrants for assault on a female, and unauthorized use of motor vehicle.
