KANNAPOLIS — Authorities say a brother and sister took their mother’s credit card and bought items at convenience and grocery stores throughout the Kannapolis area.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Joshua Scott Ritchie, 22, who lives in the 1000 block of Ebenezer Road, Kannapolis, with one count of felony financial transaction card fraud, and Jennie Lee Ritchie, 24, also of Ebenezer Road, Kannapolis, with one count of financial transaction card take/obtain, and one count of felony financial transaction card fraud. Officials arrested the two on Friday.

Joshua Ritchie remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $2,000 secured bond; his sister, Jennie, remains in the county jail under a $2,500 secured bond.

Officials were contacted by Robert Ritchie, father to Joshua and Jennie. Robert told investigators there was some question of drug use by the siblings, but the two recently had been at his home. On Feb. 26, the two were there and Jennie was seen inside her mother’s car. The same day the mother’s SunTrust credit card was taken and used to pay for a cab ride home. The two are also accused of using the card at a Kannapolis Wilco-Hess gas station and a Food Lion in Kannapolis.

Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford said the officer spoke with a Kannapolis Police investigator who indicated the police department also has pending charges against the pair. Jennie Ritchie gave a statement to authorities and admitted to using her mother’s card.

Jennie Ritchie was convicted in January of drunk and disorderly. She was given probation. Joshua Ritchie has been convicted of larceny, misdemeanor breaking and entering and drug possession. He is also on probation from a November 2012 drug possession conviction.
