Kannapolis fire displaces seven residents

KANNAPOLIS — Fire and smoke damage to a home on Belair Avenue Sunday evening displaced the seven people living there.

The cause is under investigation.

Around 7 p.m., firefighters responding to the fire report found heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the house. Firefighters with the first engine to arrive ran a single hose line into the kitchen area to attack the fire while additional crews searched the home for victims. A second hose line provided backup to the crews operating inside.

The search revealed that all seven of the occupants and a family pet had escaped.

Firefighters quickly contained the fire, but smoke extended throughout the home and into the attic, displacing the seven occupants. Cabarrus EMS was on scene, but no injuries were reported.

The Landis and Odell fire departments assisted with coverage while KFD units continued to look for hot spots left by the blaze.
