A group of eight local actresses will perform a staged reading of “Love, Loss & What I Wore” starting Wednesday at the Looking Glass Artists Center’s black box theater.
Jennifer Hubbard, Kimi Matthews, Teri Steelman, Claudia Galup, Tamara Sheffield, Mary Ann McCubbin, Wendy Beeker and Anne Cote Hoffman star in the show written by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron. Missy Barnes is the director for the Lee Street Theatre production.
Nora Ephron wrote the screenplays for several famous movies including “When Harry Met Sally,” “Sleepless in Seattle,” “You’ve Got Mail” and “Julie and Julia.”
“Lee Street Theatre is one of the first community theatre companies in the state to produce this play,” said Justin Dionne, the theatre’s managing artistic director. “Lee Street Theatre has wanted to do ‘Love, Loss, & What I Wore’ for several years and has just been waiting for the performance rights to be available.”
Dionne said the show appeals to the theatre group for several reasons.
“The writing is excellent,” he said. “We also think that it offers a wide variety of perspectives and experiences that many people can relate to.”
The show includes an intimate collection of stories that use clothing, accessories and the memories they trigger to tell funny and often poignant stories that women can relate to.
Although the show is geared toward women, Dionne said men will enjoy it.
“This will be a great show for ladies night and for a date night,” he said. “The writing is so good that even though the subject matter directly speaks about women, in transcends through to men as well.  
“We also have an amazing cast of very strong performers that every audience member will appreciate.”
Dionne said the play was written to be performed as a staged reading, without sets or full costumes, and has been done that way in New York.
