Proposed Davie High would cost $53.7 million

Davie County education leaders are proposing a new school that would house all the county’s high school students at a cost of $53.7 million.

At a called meeting last week, the Davie school board heard a presentation on the school. The 328,000-square-foot facility would have a capacity of up to 2,000 students.

The board will discuss the proposal again at its March 5 regular meeting.

The Davie County Enterprise Record reported the proposed new Davie High includes a three-story classroom tower with 69 classrooms, an auditorium, gym, auxiliary gym, career and technical education space and a media center nearly double the size of the one at the current school.

The campus would include a 4,500-seat stadium, softball and baseball fields and practice fields.

The new high school would be adjacent to North Davie Middle School off Interstate 40 between Mocksville and Clemmons. It would replace the current Davie high school just south of Mocksville, with part of that campus being used for new school system offices and part of it used for community activities.

Construction could begin in June 2014.
