Charlotte woman charged with marijuana possession during traffic checkpoint
SALISBURY — Authorities charged a Charlotte woman with drug possession during an early morning traffic checkpoint. The Salisbury Police charged Alexis Faye Mitchell, 22, of Falls Creek Lane, Charlotte, with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a controlled substance, schedule IV; maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, schedule VI.
Around 12:05 a.m. Tuesday, officers were on Interstate 85 at East Innes Street when a Kia Soul was traveling 80 mph in a 65 mph zone.
The driver, Chalmers Hood, 22, also of Falls Creek Lane, was stopped. Officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana when the driver rolled down his window. The passenger, who was Alexis Mitchell, handed over a small marijuana cigarette to the officer.
The officer asked if there were any other substances in the vehicle, to which Mitchell said she had some in her purse. Her purse contained a plastic container with small plastic bags of marijuana inside it. A report said the container also had hashish oil, rolling papers and a set of digital scales.
Mitchell admitted the items belonged to her, said Capt. Shelia Lingle. Mitchell was given a $5,000 secured bond and has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center. Hood was given a traffic citation for speeding.
