Kannapolis fire safety educator earns state recognition
KANNAPOLIS — Maria Bostian, safety educator for the Kannapolis Fire Department, has been awarded the 2012 North Carolina Fire and Life Safety Award of Excellence by the N.C. Fire and Life Safety Education Council and the N.C. Department of Insurance.
Bostian was recognized for public education programs that help prevent fire -related injuries and deaths. Nominees were judged on leadership, innovation, uniqueness, effectiveness, impact on safety problem and utilization of resources.
“This award is an acknowledgement of Maria’s commitment to the education of our community in the area of fire and life safety and is well deserved”, said Fire Chief Ernie Hiers. “The Kannapolis Fire Department has long recognized the importance of providing strong educational programs and is grateful to all of the fire department personnel who help deliver these classes under Maria’s guidance.”
Bostian has been an educator with the Kannapolis Fire Department since December 2007. She is a certified safety educator, holds American Montessori Society Elementary I and II credentials and recently obtained her Master’s in Education in Montessori Integrative Learning from Endicott College.
