SALISBURY — A couple were charged with receiving large quantities of pills from prescriptions at multiple area pharmacies after fraudulently obtaining a prescription from a local dentist, Salisbury Police said.

Heidi Amanda Gladden, 27, of 2800 W. Innes St., Apt. 103, and Gregory Lynn Sapp, 31, who lives in the 3200 block of West Innes Street, were charged with 42 counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture drugs.

Police reports indicate Gladden had been employed at the Statesville Boulevard office of Dr. Janakkumar Patel. Patel was not involved in the matter, police said.

Capt. Shelia Lingle said Gladden and Sapp forged numerous prescriptions at Rite Aid, Walmart and Moose Pharmacy. The two received hydrocodone/acetaminophen at these pharmacies. On one occasion the two received 162 pills from Rite Aid, 54 pills from Walgreens, 54 pills from Moose Pharmacy, and on two separate occasions Gladden and Sapp obtained 54 pills and 48 pills from Walmart, police said. The prescriptions were called in by phone.

An officer contacted Gladden and she went to the magistrate’s office to be served with the warrants on the weekend. Police reports said Sapp was in the county jail for a previous trafficking charge and he was served with the warrants.

Sapp and Gladden remain in the Rowan County Detention Center, each under a $100,000 secured bond.
