Time to submit Good Samaritan Award nominations

Published 12:00 am Sunday, February 24, 2013

The Civitan Club of Salisbury is seeking nominations for the annual Good Samaritan of the Year Award. This award was first presented in 1973 and has been given annually ever since. The 2013 honoree will be the 40th recipient in a long line of outstanding citizens from our community.
This year’s award will be presented on Thursday, April 4 at the club’s luncheon meeting held at the Country Club of Salisbury. Candidates for the Good Samaritan of the Year must be residents of Rowan County. The purpose of this award is to recognize a person who clearly demonstrates the characteristics of the Biblical Good Samaritan by going beyond the normal expected call of duty. Nominations should record the service that highlights the good deeds of the individual being recognized. Such service often includes activities that are done without thought of recognition or remuneration or even publicity, but solely for the joy and satisfaction of helping others in time of need.
It is required that nominations be sent to The Civitan Club of Salisbury no later than Wednesday, March 20. The letter of recommendation should not include the name of the person being nominated (that should be on a separate piece of paper along with a phone number for the nominator). The honoree will be invited, along with family members, to attend the Civitan Club meeting on Thursday, April 4 to be recognized. Typically, if at all possible, this award is kept secret until presented.
Nominations may be sent to: The Civitan Club of Salisbury at PO Box 171, Salisbury, NC 28145.
