State toxicology reports show a Salisbury man who was killed in a single-vehicle crash in early January was intoxicated.
David Lewis Wood, 54, was traveling north on U.S. 601 when his vehicle left the road and went down a deep embankment. A passerby spotted the vehicle the next morning. The crash occurred on Jan. 5 near Young Road.
The report said Wood’s blood alcohol content was between .13 and .16, according to two blood tests from the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Chapel Hill. The legal limit is .08. The report was released Thursday.
The N.C. Highway Patrol investigated the accident and at the time did not determine a cause for the crash. The Highway Patrol has not released any new information about the cause of the crash.
Wood was traveling the posted 55 mph speed limit and there was no indication Wood tried to brake, Trooper C.J. Doty said in January. It was unclear if he fell asleep or if alcohol contributed to the crash.
Wood’s fiancee told the trooper Wood drank one beer at a family gathering. He later met his fiancee and her daughter at McDonald’s restaurant. He was supposed to meet his fiancee at her home, but never made it.
