Centenary Methodist Church has scheduled the first “Run for Food 5K” for Saturday, Feb. 23. All proceeds will be used to partner with “Kids Against Hunger” from Charlotte.

Centenary Methodist has pledged to raise funds to continue to support the ministry that now has fed more than 1 million meals. Runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome.

A half mile fun run will kick off the event at 9:30 a.m. Children, 12 and under, will compete for awards. The 5K will follow at 10 a.m, with awards going to top three overall and top masters male and female runners. Runners will compete for the top three places in 14 age groups for both males and females. All participants will get a dri-fit shirt and refreshments afterwards.

Race director Carla Kluttz said, “We want to raise money to help feed starving people from areas of the world that really need us. The 5K course is through beautiful country roads and is a relatively flat run. What we raise at this event will go towards a meal packing in April. Last year, we packed over 50,000 meals. We want to pack even more this year.”

Centenary Methodist is located at 620 Centenary Church Road. A printable race application is available at www.salisburyrowanrunners.org and Kluttz can be reached at 704-433-3755.
