CHINA GROVE — Landis and China Grove fire crews kept a blaze at bay Thursday night at a Thom Street mill.

A Rowan Rescue Squad official on the scene said the fire appeared to have started inside a ventilation shaft at Tuscarora Yarns Mill. The fire started about 7:45 p.m.

By 8:30 p.m., fire crews appeared to have the blaze knocked down and were working to clear smoke from the building.

Scanner traffic indicated the fire began in a lower level of the facility. No one was injured.

Rowan County EMS and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
