Charlotte sex offender charged with going to Cabarrus, not Rowan school
Cabarrus County officials charged a Charlotte man after they said the registered sex offender visited a middle school at least twice.
Jacob Lee Rowlette, 33, of Crape Myrtle Lane, went with his girlfriend, who resides in Cabarrus County, to pick up her daughter at a Cabarrus County middle school a week ago. Other sources indicated Rowlette had gone to a Rowan County school, but Rowan officials had no record of the incident.
An official with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office said that on Feb. 5, the school resource officer at the middle school received information Rowlette may be picking up the child. Law enforcement did not release the name of the school.
Investigators sent Rowlette’s picture to school staff, who identified Rowlette as someone who had been at the school a week before with his girlfriend. A school surveillance video also confirmed Rowlette had gone on the school grounds.
Rowlette was charged Feb. 8 after he turned himself in to authorities. He was released after posting a $30,000 secured bond.
