CHARLOTTE (AP) — Police say a 4-year-old girl is back at home after shooting herself with a gun she found in the bedroom of her mother’s townhome in downtown Charlotte.

The Charlotte Observer reports the girl’s mother, Marsharier Littlejohn, 36, and the woman’s boyfriend, Leandre Budden, 30, face charges of failure to store a firearm to protect minors. Police said Budden hasn’t yet been served with the warrant.

Littlejohn is being held in the Mecklenburg County jail under $1,500 bond.

Police said the shooting happened about 6 p.m. Monday. Officers were called to Presbyterian Hospital after a caller said there was a child in the emergency room with an apparent gunshot wound.
