ROCKWELL — Authorities say more victims have come forward saying thieves stole catalytic converters from their vehicles.

Someone took a catalytic converter from a minibus parked at the Fisher-Saleeby YMCA, located on Crescent Road. The part was taken sometime between Feb. 6 and Feb. 11, a report said.

Rowan County Sheriff’s officials say the minibus was parked behind the YMCA facility.

A catalytic converter from a Grace Bible Church van was taken sometime between Feb. 8 and Monday. The church is located in the 6700 block of East N.C. 152, within about two miles of the YMCA, where most of the thefts have occurred.

Thieves also took another catalytic converter from a church van at Lyerly Evangelical Church, in the 1300 block of Crescent Road, less than a half a mile from the Y. The church van was last known secure on Feb. 8.

Investigators believe the same thief or thieves targeted the YMCA a week ago.

Officials said on Feb. 5 catalytic converters were taken from two vehicles — a personal pickup and a YMCA van parked at the East branch.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office at 704-216-8700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
