Hospital reviews rash in post-operative patients

ASHEVILLE (AP) — Officials at an Asheville hospital are evaluating several post-operative patients after the staff discovered an unexplained rash.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that Mission Health is stressing that it doesn’t believe the rash is infectious.

A statement from the hospitals said the Mission nursing staff identified the rash as part of the routine patient post-operative care process, The rashes were reported and an evaluation followed, including examinations by two dermatologists and an infectious disease physician.

The hospital said Monday that the final results of the examinations are pending, but physicians believe strongly that the rashes are not infectious. Officials also said the Buncombe County Department of Health has been notified.
