83-year-old taken to hospital after Jeep, tractor-trailer collide

SALISBURY — An 83-year-old man was taken to the hospital after authorities said he drove into the oncoming path of a tractor-trailer truck Friday afternoon.

His older model Jeep was tossed over an embankment near the intersection of Morlan Park Road and Jake Alexander Boulevard. Police classified the man’s injuries as non-life threatening.


Salisbury Police said William Edward Fisher, of Peeler Street, was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center with a cut to his head about 4:30 p.m.

Authorities said Fisher crossed Jake Alexander Boulevard onto Morlan Park Road when a tractor-trailer driven by James Faggart slammed into Fisher’s Jeep. The 18-wheeler was heading east on Jake Alexander.

Emergency crews helped Fisher from the Jeep, which sustained significant damage on the right side.

He was taken by ambulance to the Salisbury hospital.

Faggart was not injured in the wreck, police said.

Police said Fisher is expected to be charged with failure to yield and driving without a seatbelt. His condition was not immediately available Friday night.
