Anti-drug message on display at China Grove Middle

Students at China Grove Middle School recently participated in a door decorating contest to communicate information about drug awareness and warn against the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse.

Classroom doors were judged on Jan. 31 by Donald Bringle, mayor of China Grove; Eddie Kluttz, China Grove police chief; and Greg Yousey, psychologist at Carolina Counseling in Salisbury.


Door designs were judged on creativity, overall message and appearance. The winning homeroom received breakfast from Chick-fil-a. Laurie Chilelli’s homeroom won first prize, a beautiful door decorated with fabric. Second prize winners, Angie Huntley and Lisa Simmerson, created a tunnel of the effects of substance abuse on internal organs.

China Grove Middle School takes pride in educating students about the dangers of risky behavior. Drugs and alcohol impact our students every day, as they may experience peer pressure at school and in the community. Teens are also exposed to glorified use of illegal substances in the media. China Grove Middle School continues to combat negative influences with positive messages, education and teamwork.
