KANNAPOLIS — Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a driver who ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle then fled the scene.
The wreck happened around 6:30 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Jackson Park Road and North Cannon Boulevard, the Kannapolis Police Department said.
Witnesses told police the driver of a Jeep going north on North Cannon ran a red light and turned left onto Jackson Park Road. The Jeep turned hit a 2004 Chevrolet minivan that was headed south on North Cannon. The minivan hit a utility pole, causing a power outage and damage to the traffic signals at the intersection.
The driver of the Jeep SUV failed to stop at the crash scene and continued west on Jackson Park Road, police said. The Jeep SUV was later found behind Hardees Restaurant located at 611 Jackson Park Road.
Four passengers in the minivan were injured and taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast for treatment.
Police officers are conducting interviews with the registered owner of the Jeep SUV, but the driver of the vehicle had not been identified Tuesday evening.
