SHELBY (AP) — The Cherryville man convicted in the rape and murder of a 79-year-old woman in 2003 is facing life in prison
Donald Borders was sentenced to life in prison without parole Tuesday after being convicted of the killing of Margaret Tessneer, Borders was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree rape and felony breaking and entering.
Tessneer’s body was discovered by her daughter and son-in-law in September 2003. Borders was arrested in 2009, when investigators used DNA to tie him to the crime.
Survivors of two other elderly women found dead around the same time want to know whether Borders is behind those deaths as well. Shelby police say they’re still looking for evidence linking Borders to those deaths, but it’s not clear if they have found any.
