SALISBURY — Five people were injured, one seriously, in a two-vehicle accident early Wednesday evening on N.C. 150 east of Patterson Road.

The accident occurred about 4:45 p.m.

The vehicles involved were a red Dodge Durango and a silver Mitsubishi, both heavily damaged.

The State Highway Patrol was investigating Wednesday night, and no other details were available. The injured were transported to Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Witnesses said five people were in the Durango and two in the Mitsubishi coupe. Airbags deployed on both vehicles.

Residents along this stretch of N.C. 150 said accidents — and damage to their properties — are commonplace.

“It’s just way too fast through here,” Mitch Eidson said of the 55 mph speed limit.

Vehicles going off the road hit mailboxes, trees and fences, Kellie Martin says.

“We have wrecks in our yard yearly,” she added.

Besides speed, Martin said wet road surfaces also seem to be a contributing factor to the wrecks.

The Mitsubishi in Wednesday’s accident landed on top of a mailbox.
