Authorities say a Hodge Street man turned himself in at the police station days after he robbed two local convenience stores at gunpoint.

Salisbury police charged David Alan Burris Jr., 24, of Salisbury, with two counts felony robbery with a dangerous weapon.

On Sunday night, authorities say, Burris robbed the Pit Stop at 2412 S. Main St. He went inside, stopped at the soda station and put on a mask and blue hoodie. He pointed a handgun at the cashier and told her he was out of work and was robbing the store because he “needed money to feed his starving kids.”

He demanded she put the money from the register into his bag.

On Tuesday at 8:15 p.m., officials say, Burris robbed the Fast Stop convenience store at 2210 S. Main St., a short distance from the Pit Stop. He walked into the store carrying a small black pistol and wearing a black mask and a dark colored hoodie. He demanded money from the clerks.

He pointed the gun and said “this is a robbery,” said Police Capt. Shelia Lingle.

He told the clerk to “hurry up” because his “ride was there to pick him up,” Lingle said.

Burris ran toward the back of the store, a report said.

After being charged, Burris was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.
