WINTHROP, S.C. — Winthrop held on to first place in the Big South Conference with a 65-63 win over Coastal Carolina on Saturday.

Former West Rowan star Phillip Williams scored six points for the Eagles.

Davidson 79, Western Carolina 59

DAVIDSON — Stephen Curry scored 25 points to lead Davidson past Western Carolina 79-59.

Thomas Sander added 18 points, William Archambault came off the bench to post 10, and Boris Meno had 14 rebounds for the Wildcats (18-4, 9-1 SoCon). Andrew Lovedale came off the bench to add nine rebounds and eight points.

Nick Aldridge scored 14 points to lead the Catamounts (7-13, 4-5).

UNC Greensboro 69, Furman 54

GREENSBORO — Ricky Hickman came off the bench to score 31 points while Kyle Hines had a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds as UNC Greensboro defeated Furman 69-54.

Ben Stywall added 10 rebounds for the Spartans (11-9, 8-2 SoCon), who scored 23 points off 16 Furman turnovers.

UNC Asheville 53, Charleston Southern 40

ASHEVILLE — Bryan Smithson scored 17 points and Donovan Jones added 14 to lift UNC Asheville (7-14, 3-4, Big South Conference) past Charleston Southern 53-40.

South Carolina 66, Mississippi State 63

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Tre Kelly went to the locker room briefly with an injured knee. But he returned to finish with 23 points and Dominique Archie hit 3 of 4 free throws in the final 26 seconds as South Carolina beat Mississippi State 66-63 to pick up a rare Southeastern Conference road win.

The Bulldogs (11-8, 2-4) led much of the game with first place in the SEC West on the line, but faltered at the end of each half in the loss to the Gamecocks (12-7, 2-4).

UAB 58, East Carolina 42

GREENVILLE — Wen Mukubu scored 15 points and Lawrence Kinnard added 14 to lift UAB past East Carolina 58-42.

Courtney Captain scored 13 points and Darrell Jenkins had 10 points and eight assists for the Pirates (5-14, 0-6),

Georgia Southern 68, Elon 67

ELON — Donte Gennie scored 20 points and Louie Graham added 18 to lead Georgia Southern past Elon 68-67.

LeVonn Jordan had a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds for Elon (5-14, 3-6).

Old Dominion 86, UNC Wilmington 70

WILMINGTON — Brandon Johnson scored 27 points to lead three players in double-digit scoring and lift Old Dominion past UNC Wilmington 86-70.

Montez Downey came off the bench to score 21 points to lead the Seahawks (4-15, 1-9), who’ve lost eight straight to Old Dominion. Todd Hendley had 11 rebounds.

Campbell 84, Jacksonville 74

BUIES CREEK — Jonathan Rodriguez scored 26 points — 19 in the second half — and grabbed 11 rebounds to lift Campbell (10-10, 5-5 Atlantic Sun Conference) past Jacksonville.

Winston-Salem 56, Bethune-Cookman 48

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Darius Floyd scored 17 points and Jamal Durham added 16 as Winston-Salem beat Bethune-Cookman 56-48.

Winston-Salem (4-19), has won three of its last four games.

North Carolina A&T 80, Norfolk St. 60

GREENSBORO — Greg Roberts scored 24 points to lead four players in double-digit scoring and lift North Carolina A&T past Norfolk State 80-60.

Steven Rush came off the bench to score 15 points, Austin Ewing added 12, and Angelo Hernandez posted 11 for the Aggies (9-11, 5-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).

South Carolina St. 74, Hampton 63

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — After two tough conference losses last week, South Carolina State got things back on the winning track with a 74-63 victory over the Hampton.

Bowie St. 99, Johnson C. Smith 88

BOWIE, Md. — Gil Goodrich had 27 points to lead Bowie State past Johnson C. Smith 99-88.

Maurice Hooper led the Golden Bulls (9-6, 7-4 CIAA) with 19 points, and Ryan Scott added 18.
