A free workshop for Rowan County nonprofit leadership will be sponsored by the Robertson Family Foundation on Feb. 20.
One of a continuing series of professional development workshops, the event will be held at the Center for the Environment at Catawba College.
Presented by the N.C. Center for Nonprofits, the workshop is titled “Build Your Board to the New Normal” and will focus on building strong and active boards of directors.
Conducted by center Vice President Trisha Lester, the workshop will illustrate how having the right leadership makes a huge difference in a nonprofit’s ability to carry out its mission, especially now as they face formidable challenges in a very changed environment.
Lester will pose questions such as “How do you build a high performing board of directors — one that welcomes constructive deliberation, focuses on the right issues, engages in fundraising, and supports its executive director/CEO?”
The workshop will be an occasion where participants can share ideas about what qualities and skills are required of boards in the “new normal,” learn from peers how they are redesigning their boards for more effective governance and find resources and tools to help in the redesigning.
The workshop opens with coffee and networking at 8:30 a.m. Lester will begin her presentation at 9 a.m., concluding at noon.
It is open, free of charge, to all executive directors/CEOs, second-in-charge staff and board members in the Rowan County nonprofit community.

Grant applications must be filed no later than 5 p.m. on March 15, which is a bit earlier than in the past.
