All of Friday’s local basketball games and wrestling matches were postponed by weather concerns, as well as the annual Rowan County swimming championships.

• The swim meet was rescheduled for Friday, Jan. 25 at the J.F. Hurley YMCA, with the first event at 3:50 p.m.

• Albemarle-North Rowan basketball was rescheduled for Thursday, Jan. 31.

• West Rowan-Carson basketball and East Rowan-Statesville basketball games were rescheduled for Jan. 30.

• Salisbury-Lexington basketball was rescheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 22.

• Davie-R.J. Reynolds basketball was rescheduled for Feb. 12.

• A.L. Brown-Northwest Cabarrus was rescheduled for Feb. 4. A.L. Brown-Concord has been moved from Jan. 22 to Jan. 23.

• In a YVC boys game, North Moore topped South Stanly 65-60.

Legion baseball
Post 66 commander Sam Allred announced the selection of Seth Graham as head coach of the Mooresville Moors senior team for the 2013 season.

The announcement comes following Jeremy Johnson’s departure to the Lake Norman Copperheads college summer team.

Graham was coach of the Wilkes Community College program for years is currently a Catawba assistant coach.

Clark Benfield will assist Graham. Benfield coached the Moors junior team to a state runner-up finish in 2012.

Youth baseball/softball

Rowan Little League baseball and softball registrations are from 9-3 on Jan. 26 and Feb. 9 at Godley’s Garden Center on Statesville Boulevard.

Once again, there will be a Pre-TBall league for ages 3-4.

Baseball cost is $80 for Coach Pitch and T-ball (ages 3-8). Cost is $100 for ages 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. League age is as of April 30, 2013.

Softball cost is $80 for girls 8U Coach Pitch (ages 6-8). Cost is $100 for ages 10U, 12U, 14U. League age is as of Dec. 31, 2012.

East Rowan
East Rowan Diamond Sports spring registration starts on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 2-4 p.m. and will run in conjunction with East Rowan Mustangs Winter Baseball Camp at Granite Quarry’s Staton Field.

In case of inclement weather, it will be held in the East Rowan cafeteria.

A second on-site registration will be Saturday, Feb. 2 from 2-4 at the East Rowan cafeteria. The final on-site registration will be Saturday, Feb. 24 from 2-4 at the East Rowan cafeteria.

Leagues offered are T-Ball, Coach Pitch, Minors, Majors, Juniors, and Girls Softball.

T-Ball is $70 and all other divisions will be $95.

China Grove
China Grove youth baseball and softball registrations start on Monday, Jan. 21 at Dale’s Sporting Goods in China Grove and lasts through Feb. 16.

Baseball costs are $55 for Coach Pitch leagues for ages 5-6 and ages 7-8.

Cost for Junior Division for ages 9-10 is $55. Cost for Senior Division for ages 11-12 is $55.

Softball cost for Coach Pitch for ages 6-9 is $55. Cost for Senior Division for ages 10-13 is $55.

The late fee after Feb. 16 is $65.

Spencer, Franklin Ellis
Baseball sign-ups for Spencer Little League and Franklin Ellis Coach Pitch start Feb. 1.

Sign-ups are for boys and girls baseball, ages 4-15.

Division are Coach Pitch, Minors, Majors, and Juniors.

Sign-ups are Fridays, Feb. 1 from 4-7 p.m. and Feb. 8, from 4-7 p.m. and Saturdays, Feb. 2 from 9 until noon and Feb. 9 from 9 until noon.

Sign-ups are at the baseball clubhouse at 8th Street Park.

The cost is $60 per child for ages 4-12 and $80 for ages 13-15.Online registration is available at

SAC tourney tickets
Tickets for the Food Lion SAC Basketball Championship, on March 9-10 at Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C., are now on sale through the Timmons Arena online box office.

This will be the first time the tourney has been held at Timmons Arena, home to Furman’s basketball program.

The $10.9 million on-campus facility is located minutes from Greenville’s downtown district.

The championship will feature men’s and women’s semifinals on Saturday, March 9, followed by both title games on Sunday, March 10.

Tickets for Saturday’s semifinal round are $12 for adults and $5 for college students and children 12 and under. Tickets for Sunday’s final round are $10 for adults and $5 for college students and children 12 and under.
