CONCORD — The N.C. Department of Transportation will close a southbound Interstate 85 ramp in Concord Friday night as contractors continue construction.

In a press release, officials said contractors will shut Exit 55 at N.C. 73 at 9 p.m. to reset a temporary barrier in preparation for the ramp’s new configuration.

The ramp is expected to reopen at 6 a.m. Saturday.

Construction crews will also close the left lanes of I-85 North and South near Poplar Tent Road at Exit 52. Those lanes will be closed during the same time period as crews perform bridgework at the intersection.

One lane will remain open in each direction.

The construction is part of a $125.2 million project to widen nearly 7 miles of I-85 from four to eight lanes.
