The Edwards Family of Salisbury, a bluegrass-gospel band, played for Lt. Gov Dan Forest’s inaugural celebration in Raleigh this past Saturday. Forest was host for an old-fashioned pig-pickin,’ which meant barbecue and bluegrass music for more than 1,000 people. The event, which followed the inaugural parade, was held outside the Hawkins Hartness House, which serves as the office for the lieutenant governor. The Edwards Family provided the entertainment for the three-and-a-half-hour gathering. Members of the Edwards Family include Elizabeth on bass, Mary Lynn on fiddle, Shane on guitar and Alex on banjo. In recent performances, the family has been joined by Daniel Wright, a young musician from Virginia. Dale and Connie Edwards are the parents of the Edwards children. Elizabeth Edwards, the oldest, works as a political consultant, and she later attended Saturday night’s Governor’s Ball. Over the past year, the Edwards Family has appeared on the “Bluegrass Road” program, which is a show on the Blue Highways TV network.
