Phi Kappa Phi

Edward Harper Jr., of Salisbury, was recently initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Harper is pursuing a degree in music at University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

York dean’s list

Patricia Evans of Mocksville, a senior psychology major at York College of Pennsylvania, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2012 semester. To be eligible for this honor, a student must be registered for at least 12 academic credit hours and earn a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Clemson graduates

Two local residents graduated from Clemson University on Dec. 20, 2012.

They are: Nicholas Alexander Lebaron of Mooresville, who graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering, and Garrison Nicole Stevens of Salisbury, who graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in civil engineering.

In all, 1,200 students received degrees at two winter graduation ceremonies at Littlejohn Coliseum.

Harding dean’s list

Mocksville resident Gregory Nuckols, a senior at Harding University, is among more than 1,000 university students included on the dean’s list for grades achieved during the fall semester.

The dean’s list is published each semester by Dr. Larry Long, university provost, honoring those who have achieved high scholarship. To be eligible, a student must be carrying 12 or more hours with a 3.65 or higher grade-point average and no incompletes.

Furman dean’s list

Simone Dixon, of Kannapolis, daughter of Mr. and Ms. Glenn Dixon, was named to the dean’s list at Furman University for the 2012 fall semester. Furman’s dean’s list is composed of full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.4 or higher on a four-point system.
